Pastoral Care

Realising the need for more visiting than the “Vicar” can possibly do with so many parishes and other duties to perform, the Lay Pastoral Team for Martley, Wichenford and The Lower Teme Valley was set up. Members of each local church communities were brought together and the team is now well established, and very supportive of both the clergy and of one another.

The role of the team has developed so that now, as well as visiting, we are able to offer a Tea Party at Heaton House in January /February – to drive away the winter blues!! Then in May/June there is a Tea Service at St. Mary Magdalene, Broadwas, and in August/September, one at St. Peter’s, Martley. A Tea Service means a short Act of Worship with some favourite hymns a few prayers and some well-chosen words before a delicious tea is served – all in the Church. Our Advent Soup Lunch – the 4th event of the year is held at Wichenford Memorial Hall and is a veritable feast of soup, cheese, mince pies and fruit. All these events, thanks to the generosity and wonderful cooking/baking skills of the Team are free – we do, however, accept any donations offered. Each of these occasions provide an excellent opportunity for catching up with old friends and meeting new ones. A very good time is had by all.

The Team is available to visit as, of course, are all the members of the Clergy. Janet Andrews, Sheila Richards and Jackie Miller are our Representatives in Wichenford, Ursula Baker, Pauline Key, Jay Popplewell, Caroline Smith and Helen Walker in the Lower Teme Valley and Jean Hyslop, June Lawrence, Helen Sandison and Jane Sherwin in Martley.
